Design of a Multi-Band Antireflector and RCS Reduction Metasurface Based on the Polarization Conversion Method
This study introduces a metasurface with antireflective and Radar Cross-Section Reduction (RCSR) properties in the frequency range of 3-33 GHz. The design and validation stages of the structure include four stages, in which Linear-to-cross (LX) and Linear-to-Circular (LC) polarization conversion for unit cells are implemented. The frequency bands were chosen such that the highest performance was achieved. To increase the operational bandwidth and other alignment in aspect of absorption, different incident waves and structural considerations, optimal combination of the first and second cells was implemented which improves polarization conversion criteria and Its synchronization with its Mirror-Symmetrical Array was intended to logically optimize the configuration when encountering various incident wave scenarios especially in the three frequency bands of 3–9 GHz, 18–22 GHz , and 31-33 GHz. An overall 60% absorption for Combined Array was obtained. Therefore, the 8×8 array is devised from repeating Combined Arrays as a mirror symmetry to ensure the desired properties in a wide bandwidth by converting reflection polarization and phase cancellation. As a result, an RCS reduction greater than 10 dB has been achieved in nearly a quarter of the 3-33 GHz frequency band. Also, the mentioned performance is nearly incident angle independent and is polarization independent. The structure was fabricated and the simulation and measurement results showed to be in good agreement.
