Interventional pulmonology training in India – The vision of Indian Association for Bronchology
Interventional pulmonology (IP) has emerged as a transformative subspecialty within respiratory medicine, delivering minimally invasive solutions for complex airway, pleural, and mediastinal diseases.IP involves the use of minimally invasive procedures to diagnose and treat pulmonary diseases, offering patients a less invasive and more effective alternative to traditional surgical methods.Interventional pulmonology, that began as a niche field has rapidly evolved into a comprehensive, procedure-driven subspecialty encompassing advanced diagnostics, minimally invasive therapeutics, and real-time image-guided interventions.Procedures such as bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) along with modalities like argon plasma coagulation (APC), lasers, cryotherapy, stents, navigation and many more have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory diseases, enabling pulmonologists to provide more accurate and effective care.
