Stability Evaluation of Landfill Slopes Using Quantitative Risk Assessment

Rainfall‐induced landslides are a common type of geomorphological hazard that severely impacts landfill slope stability. To address the frequent occurrence of landslide disasters at landfills, a quantitative risk assessment (QRA) of the stability was conducted in the landslide‐prone areas of the landfill to enhance the reliability of the assessment results. By systematically identifying the vulnerable situations in the slope stability of the landfill, the probabilities of slope instability under different rainfall conditions and the vulnerability of personnel and buildings were calculated. This quantitative analysis of slope stability enabled a comprehensive evaluation of slope stability in the landfill area. Taking the Xiaping Solid Waste Landfill as an example, the QRA of slope sliding at the landfill was compared with the risk acceptance criteria to validate the applicability of the assessment model. The results indicate that the QRA sliding risk theory combined with the ALARP acceptance criteria can achieve quantitative risk analysis, with the most unfavorable conditions for buildings and personnel risk occurring at the 140 mm/12 h level, consistent with the actual slope conditions. The research findings can provide reference for evaluating and determining the stability of landfill slopes in engineering practice and contribute to the sustainable management of landfill facilities.
