On the revolution in military affairs: key trends for the upcoming years
The current global turbulence and the "return of war to politics" has accelerated the rate of change in military strategies and technologies. This paper discusses the main trends that have emerged in recent years, including an increased likelihood of the use of tactical nuclear weapons on the battlefield, the automation of warfare through the widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), a focus on preemptive strikes due to advances in surveillance and command and control systems, the consequences of population decline and deindustrialization in developed countries, and a shift towards an "efficiency paradigm" that may lead to certain techniques and strategies that were previously considered unethical.
