REGIÃO E PLANEJAMENTO:
This article presents a reflection on the concept of metropolitan region in geography, having as a guiding thread from texts from classical geography to contemporary readings. In order to fulfill this intent, we intend to analyze the traditional concept of region, discuss urbanization, regionalization and urban planning and demonstrate the process of constitution of the Metropolitan Region of Goiânia (RMG), trying to understand since when it exists, which municipalities have entered, which came out, as well as their current composition. It can be said that the RMG is a construction, the result of its condition as an administrative political instrument. Yes, an instrument, since it does not emerge from a felt, lived place. There is no perceived cohesion in such a widespread metropolitan region, with the inclusion of disparate municipalities in its composition, sometimes with little or no integration with the RMG. A real patchwork that calls for ordering and integration in favor of a more dignified life for its citizens.
