A Case Study on Data Privacy and Security Concerns in Telemedicine Platforms in India

In recent years, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine services in India have experienced significant growth. While this shift has improved healthcare accessibility, it has also brought increasing concerns regarding the protection of sensitive patient data and the rising threat of cybersecurity breaches. This research focuses on identifying various vulnerabilities within telemedicine platforms and suggests possible solutions to prevent unauthorized access and data leaks. Many existing platforms in India currently lack robust data security frameworks, leaving patient information at risk. The study relies on secondary research, analyzing previous studies, government reports, and recent incident records to uncover common challenges such as weak encryption standards, unclear data consent processes, and poor compliance with proposed data protection guidelines. Based on the findings, the paper recommends implementing comprehensive data governance policies, mandatory cybersecurity audits, and large-scale awareness initiatives aimed at both healthcare providers and patients. Enhancing these areas is essential to safeguard patient information and maintain trust in digital healthcare services across the country.
