Photocatalyst‐Free, Visible Light‐Induced Hydroalkylation of Vinyl Sulfones with Alcohols

A method for direct intermolecular hydroalkylation of vinyl sulfones with alcohols using visible light is reported. The reaction operates free of a photocatalyst, metal, or external redox agents and under mild conditions. This protocol offers a convenient approach to γ‐hydroxy sulfones, a valuable class of building blocks for synthesis.

Abstract

A method for direct intermolecular hydroalkylation of vinyl sulfones with alcohols using visible light is reported. The reaction operates free of a photocatalyst, metal, or external redox agents and under mild conditions. This protocol offers a convenient approach to γ‐hydroxy sulfones, a valuable class of building blocks for synthesis.
