Restoration measures for common newt populations Lissotriton vulgaris (Linnaeus, 1758) (Caudata: Salamandridae)

Today, there is a global trend of rapid decline in the number of amphibian populations and biodiversity caused by climate change, anthropogenic activity, including war. The article considers the main reasons for the impoverishment of herpetofauna. as well as the main measures implemented in different countries of the world to preserve amphibians. The main reasons for the disappearance of amphibian species are diseases, climate change, the use of pesticides, bioinvasions, road construction and loss of habitats. It has been established that the main methods of supporting the vital activity and restoration of amphibian populations are a combination of ex situ and in situ reproduction of individuals based on reproductive centers and nature conservation sites. No less important is the creation of scarce shelters, wintering grounds and spawning grounds in natural environments to support the vital activity of amphibians, especially in urban ecosystems. Currently, the common newt Lissotriton vulgaris (Linnaeus, 1758) population is low within the Dnipro district, and it is generally difficult to meet this species within the city of Dnipro. Recent studies have identified two areas of the suburban area where there are populations of common newt and crested newt. To increase the efficiency of reproduction in conditions of insufficient spawning grounds, an artificial spawning nest for the newt was created and tested (on the example of the common newt) on the basis of the Scientific Research Laboratory of Hydrobiology, Ichthyology and Radiobiology of the Scientific Research Institute of Biology of Oles Honchar Dnipro National University. It is planned to create a population center of the common newt on the basis of the Scientific Research Laboratory of Hydrobiology, Ichthyology and Radiobiology and the Educational and Scientific Complex «Aquarium» of DNU for further reintroduction of individuals into natural biotopes. In addition to the legislative level, an important aspect is the inclusion of environmental protection measures in construction projects, agricultural land expansion, and community development programs, as is practiced in European countries.
