Revolutionizing Dentistry in Primary Care: The Impact of Digital Technologies Based on 3D Computerized Planning and Oral Scanning

Abstract Digital technologies like computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems and intraoral scanners are transforming dentistry by allowing for personalized, precise, and efficient dental care. In this study, we investigate the transformative role of Dental CAD/CAM technology and the Medit i700 intraoral scanner in modern dentistry, emphasizing their implications for family physicians and primary care providers. The integration of advanced digital technologies is reshaping dental practices, enhancing the precision and efficiency of procedures, and significantly improving patient outcomes. By enabling the creation of custom dental restorations with high accuracy, CAD/CAM systems streamline workflows and reduce turnaround times, leading to increased patient satisfaction. The Medit i700 scanner further enhances this process by providing detailed, rapid, and comfortable digital impressions, allowing for personalized treatment solutions. Our findings highlight the importance of family physicians in bridging the gap between oral and general health. As primary care providers, they are often the first contact for patients and can play a crucial role in recognizing dental issues related to broader health concerns. By educating themselves about digital dentistry advancements, they can facilitate timely referrals to dental specialists and promote the benefits of advanced dental care. Furthermore, the shift toward digital records and teledentistry enhances collaboration between dental and medical professionals, fostering a holistic approach to patient care. While the initial costs of adopting these technologies may be high, the long-term benefits – such as improved treatment efficiency and reduced healthcare costs – justify the investment. Ultimately, family physicians’ advocacy for these innovations is essential for integrating oral health into comprehensive health care, leading to better health outcomes for patients.
