Orthokeratinized Odontogenic Cysts: Histopathological Insights from Three Clinical Cases

Abstract The orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst (OOC) is an unusual developmental cyst that appears in the jaw. Originally thought to be a type of odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), it is now recognized as a separate entity. The OOC is typically seen in the lower jaw and appears as an individual lesion with a low recurrence rate. Several studies have identified distinct clinicopathological features of OOC that set it apart from dentigerous cysts and OKCs. This article presents three instances of OOC in the rear region of the mandible, highlighting their differences from OKCs and dentigerous cysts while emphasizing the diagnostic challenges and the importance of histopathological examination.
