The Role of Financial Management Theories in Shaping Investment Decisions in Securities Market
This paper examines the role of financial management theories in shaping investment decisions within securities markets. Investment decisions are influenced by multiple frameworks, ranging from classical finance models to contemporary approaches. Classical theories, including the Efficient Market Hypothesis (EMH), Modern Portfolio Theory (MPT), and the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), provide foundational insights into rational decision-making, risk-return trade-offs, and asset pricing. However, their limitations in explaining real-world anomalies highlight the importance of integrating behavioral finance, which emphasizes the influence of cognitive biases such as loss aversion, overconfidence, and herding. Corporate finance perspectives further expand the analysis by demonstrating how capital structure, dividend policy, and governance choices signal firm value to investors and shape market outcomes. The study also underscores the growing relevance of financial innovations and quantitative models, such as algorithmic trading and artificial intelligence, in modern investment strategies. While these tools enhance efficiency and precision, they also pose systemic risks. Additionally, emerging market contexts reveal that financial management theories must be adapted to local institutional conditions, regulatory frameworks, and financial literacy levels. The integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations further extends traditional models by incorporating sustainability and ethical dimensions into securities investment. The findings of this paper highlight the necessity of adopting a holistic approach that integrates classical, corporate, behavioral, and contemporary perspectives. This multidimensional framework provides a more realistic understanding of investment decision-making in securities markets and offers practical implications for investors, firms, and policymakers. By bridging theory and practice, the study contributes to advancing knowledge in financial management and guiding effective decision-making in increasingly complex and dynamic markets.
