Multimodal characterization of fasteners enables quantitative modeling and evaluation
Laser triangulation scanning, digital holography and silhouette imaging have been used to perform multimodal characterization of fasteners. We show the experimental systems and strategies corresponding to different needs of fastener measurement. In particular, thanks to the laser triangulation scanning based on reciprocating motion, the accurate three-dimensional morphology of the fastener top part is obtained. Meanwhile, we demonstrate the capability of rapid laser triangulation scanning for large-area metal surface stress-strain characterization. Owing to the fusion of digital holography and silhouette imaging, we have successfully realized the 3D digitization of fasteners. The structural information and surface morphology of the fasteners are completely digitally recorded. This data will be useful for subsequent fastener fracture analysis by using AI.
