Adaptive Charging Algorithm for Resonant Inductive Wireless Power Transfer System Empowered by Mutual Inductance Identification and Voltage Ramping Method

Mutual inductance is a crucial parameter in inductive wireless power transfer (IWPT) systems, particularly for electric vehicle (EV) charging, as it directly influences overall system performance. However, real-world factors such as parking misalignments, load variations, and foreign object interference can cause fluctuations in mutual inductance, negatively affecting power transfer efficiency. Additionally, voltage and current transients impact the EV battery charging process. To address these challenges, this paper proposes an adaptive charging algorithm for an IWPT system. The algorithm enhances system stability and performance by incorporating mutual inductance identification and a soft-start voltage ramping method. Furthermore, a gyrator model based alternative method for evaluating IWPT is introduced. The study presents the system schematic, operating modes, and simulation results, ensuring compliance with the SAE J2954 standard.
