Smart City Environmental Monitoring Based on Internet of Things

Surveillance measures to maintain a high environmental health standard are collectively known as environmental monitoring (EM). Environmental monitoring is largely used to manage and lessen the ecological impact of an organization's activities to ensure compliance with regulations or minimize the risks of unwanted environmental and human health impacts. Because of the potential for human activity to have an adverse effect on the natural environment, evaluations of such impacts are often required. The Internet of Things (IoT) is useful for environmental monitoring (for example, during a hurricane) and commercial agriculture (for example, in the case of endangered species protection). A smart city improves the lives of its citizens by helping them make greater use of their local infrastructure. The ability to precisely regulate air quality, track the weather, and automate building depends on accurate temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration measurements in an intelligent city. High-quality decision-making and forecasting may benefit from the data exchanged and collected via monitoring. Impact measurements, parameter environment, and environment characterization are all covered in this article as tools and approaches for IoT-EM. Quantifying environmental effects estimates how a certain action could alter the natural environment. Data gathered from environmental monitoring will be utilized for evaluating the effectiveness of the data collection and storage environments; therefore, EM must first ascertain their present status. Testing at each stage is crucial for identifying the root causes of the contamination, designing effective countermeasures, and establishing a plan for preventing future incidents.
