Exploring the Role of Educational Chatbots in Peer-Based Learning

Collaborative learning encourages students to actively engage and share knowledge with one another. With the rise of educational technology, chatbots are being explored as supportive tools within such learning environments. This article examines the impact of a chatbot integrated into a collaborative learning setting designed to foster student engagement. Unlike traditional approaches, the experiment emphasized peer-to-peer interaction, with the chatbot serving as a complementary resource that provided answers based on course documents shared by students. An experiment was conducted in a Bachelor’s course in Management and Economics. Two groups were formed: a control group that worked individually using only course materials, and an experimental group engaged in collaborative learning with the support of a course-personalized chatbot. Finally, a satisfaction survey assessed collaboration and the chatbot’s impact on student engagement and satisfaction. Results showed that the experimental group achieved better performance and reported higher satisfaction levels compared to the control group.
