A Comparative Study of Reliability and Loss Minimization in DG Placement Using Hybrid Analytical-Grey Wolf Optimization
In modern power systems, incorporating Distributed Generation (DG) is key to increasing energy efficiency, minimising transmission losses, and promoting the use of renewable energy. This study addresses the challenges of optimising DG placement by introducing a hybrid AnalyticalGrey Wolf Optimization (GWO) approach. Focusing on the IEEE 30-bus system, the research aims to minimise power system interruptions and reduce power losses. Two simulations were conducted: one targeting reliability by minimising interruptions in the power system network and the other focusing on reducing power losses. The results indicate that the interruption objective, with DGs placed at locations 10, 12, and 30, significantly improves reliability, achieving reductions in SAIFI by 98.31%, SAIDI by 98.32%, and CAIDI by 91.67%. In contrast, the losses objective, with DGs at locations 8, 19, and 30, reduces power losses by 53.13%. The study concludes that the interruption objective is the superior strategy for enhancing overall system performance, particularly in terms of reliability.
