The Transformative Role of Mobile Applications in Biomechanics Education: Enhancing Learning, Engagement, and STEM Integration

Traditional biomechanics education often faces challenges engaging students due to its reliance on theoretical concepts and limited interactive feedback. Mobile technology offers a promising solution by enhancing learning experiences through applications designed for human movement analysis. This study examines the effectiveness of OCHY, BeOneSports, and OnForm in improving learning outcomes, student engagement, and STEM integration in biomechanics education. Using a quasi-experimental repeated-measures design, 50 undergraduate students in a biomechanics course were assessed at four stages: Pre-test (Week 1), Post-test 1 (Week 2), Post-test 2 (Week 4), and Post-test 3 (Week 6, two weeks postintervention). Quantitative assessments, surveys, and interviews measured students’ biomechanical analysis skills. A repeatedmeasures ANOVA revealed significant improvements ($\mathbf{p}\lt $ 0.001), with mean scores increasing from $58.4 \%$ (Pre-test) to $68.2 \%$ (Post-test 1), 78.9% (Post-test 2), and 80.1% (Post-test 3). Additionally, $92 \%$ of students reported greater engagement and motivation when using mobile applications compared to traditional methods. Despite these benefits, challenges such as technical constraints, learning curves, and instructor training needs were identified. This study highlights mobile technology’s potential to enhance biomechanics education by integrating STEM principles and promoting active learning. Future research should explore broader student populations, incorporate AR/VR technologies, and examine long-term knowledge retention beyond six weeks to further optimise mobile-based biomechanics education.
