Comparing Return Loss of Conventional Microstrip Patch Antenna with the Square Shaped Defective Ground Microstrip Patch Antenna for Wireless Communications

Comparison was made between the return loss of a Conventional Microstrip Patch Antenna and a Square-shaped Defective Ground Microstrip Patch Antenna for wireless communications. The study involved two groups: the Novel Square Slotted Microstrip Patch Antenna and the Conventional Microstrip Patch Antenna. The antennas' geometrical dimensions were obtained from EM talks and designed using HFSS ANSOFT software, with the simulation also carried out in the same software. Following the simulation, data was exported from the file. The study involved a sample size of 32, with 16 in each group, and SPSS was utilized for statistical analysis of the data. The maximum value of return loss was observed at 3.34 GHz, and the value was -21.8 dB for Square Slotted Defective Ground Microstrip Patch Antenna. This is statistically significant as the P value was less than 0.05. The result obtained was significant and thus proved to be an effective antenna for wireless communication.
