Analysis of IoT-Based Smart Cities: Implementation and Security Issues

Smart cities are integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI & Internet of Things (IoT) systems to change the way people live in cities, by improving efficiency and sustainability within cities. This paper discusses the supporting structures and technological platforms needed to deploy IoT in smart cities with the help of the cases of Barcelona, Singapore, and Amsterdam. The paper found that the most significant security challenges when connecting IoT solutions include unauthorized access and data privacy. In this regard, measures to practice, install, implement, encrypt, authenticate, and regulate can ensure secure and proper urban systems. In terms of implication, this can help the stakeholders in the planning and implementation of safe smart city environments through knowledge sharing.
