Total Electricity Load Evaluation for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with the Inclusion of Electric Vehicles
The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is considered to significantly reduce emissions in the transportation sector. However, with the increased number of EVs for the sustainable future of transportation in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), it is necessary to evaluate the impact of EVs on electricity usage. This study has analyzed the total load requirements in the KSA with the addition of EVs by 2030 considering population and GDP growth for estimating the number of EVs by 2030. The total electricity load requirement in the presence of EV will be 88 GW considering 5% annual growth. The impact of increased EV usage on electricity demand in KSA by 2030, considering projected population and GDP growth. Using multiple regression, we estimate the number of EVs by 2030 and analyze the corresponding total load requirements. Data sources include national statistics on population and GDP projections. This analysis provides insights into the sustainable integration of EVs and predicts that total number of EVs in 2030 will be 4,498,275 and their corresponding charging load will be 4.17 GW. Therefore, the findings of the study suggest significant addition in power generation capacity to accommodate ambitious target of EV adoption in KSA.
