Attendance Management System Based on Vehicle Number Plate Using Image Processing and Optical Character Recognition (Ocr)

The vehicle-based attendance management system, using image processing and OCR technology, enhances accuracy and efficiency in tracking attendance. This system accurately identifies and extracts license plate information, providing a more precise approach to attendance management compared to manual or card-based systems. Traditional methods are prone to errors and inefficiencies, especially when staff members forget to check in due to busy schedules, leading to incomplete attendance records. The system aims to address these issues by creating an algorithm for detection, segmentation, and recognition through image processing. Segmentation involves extracting individual characters using MATLAB functions, and OCR database checks for registration and attendance tracking. It also includes a user-friendly GUI in MATLAB for identifying outsiders, staff, and students, with data stored in Excel. The improved algorithm shows higher accuracy compared to the original after testing with daytime and nighttime images. This confirms the reliability of the improved OCR algorithm for recognizing vehicle number plates, reducing errors in detecting similar characters with 100 % of accuracy.
