Leveraging TIGFET Polarity Control for Scalable Polymorphic Logic Design

The increasing demand for energy-efficient and multifunctional computing has made it challenging for conventional MOSFET-based circuits to meet the stringent requirements of modern applications. Reconfigurable circuits have emerged as a promising alternative, offering dynamic functionality, reduced design complexity, and improved resource utilization. This study explores the potential of Three-Independent-Gate Field-Effect Transistors (TIGFETs) in implementing a highly compact and reconfigurable 10 -logic circuit architecture. Leveraging the unique polarity control of TIGFETs, a polymorphic circuit is proposed using only four TIGFETs to realize multiple logic functions, including NAND, NOR, XOR, XNOR, 3-input XOR, and a <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$2 \times 1$</tex> multiplexer. The proposed circuit design capitalizes on the inherent reconfigurability of TIGFETs, significantly reducing transistor count and enhancing area efficiency. To validate the feasibility and performance of the design, simulations are performed using the open-source 10 nm silicon-nanowire-based TIGFET Predictive Process Design Kit (PDK) within the Cadence Virtuoso platform.
