Multi-Agent Approach for Methane Emission Monitoring from an Industrial Facility Using Cooperative Quadrotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Methane emissions threaten climate stability and environmental health, emphasizing the need for enhanced monitoring technology. This study presents a fuzzy optimum Proportional Integral and Derivative (FO-PID)-based multi-agent control method. The method uses cooperative quadrotor UAVs which are exhibiting received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values which triggers our proposed control algorithm to manuover the UAVs around any factory with safe radius to monitor the methane emission. This research is an initial work of proposed area - mainly focused in developing RSSI-based FO-PID control approach for more than two quadrotor UAVs to perform circular formation around any industrial facility. This overall idea of monitoring methane emission around any infrastructure using multi-agent drones supports Aramco's environmental sustainability goals and the UN's Sustainable Development Goals such as climate action, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Eventually this technique will improve emission data precision and resolution, enabling tailored mitigation measures. At this stage, this research shows that advanced FO-PID control based Multi-agent method can alter environmental monitoring, helping industrial executives and governments improve methane management. Initially, the study shows unique multi-agent control tracking results around several industrial sites in the region. This proves the oil and gas approach's reliability.
