Modeling and Design Method of Composite Magductance for Magnetic Impedance Matching of Electromagnetic Devices by Vector Magnetic Circuit Theory

The magnetic impedance matching is one of the key aspects in the design and optimal operation of electromagnetic devices such as transformers and inductors. In this article, a modeling and design method of composite magductance for magnetic impedance matching is proposed based on the vector magnetic circuit theory, in which a magnetic component or magductance is introduced. By introducing electrical components into the magductance coil, a composite magductance is constructed. Thus, not only modulus but also phase of the magnetic impedance can be flexibly and precisely adjusted to achieve magnetic impedance matching in various electromagnetic devices. Moreover, the effect of the eddy-current in magnetic core on the magnetic impedance is taken into account by an equivalent magductance for the first time. A rapid selection method for the appropriate composite magductance is developed, providing a valuable tool for optimizing magnetic circuits. Three illustrative examples with experimental validation of the selected composite magductance demonstrate the validity of the method. The proposed modeling and design method is simple, precise, and practical in the accurate control of the magnetic impedance of magnetic circuits.
