Bridging the digital divide: ICT Integration in the Public Secondary School Classrooms in San Mariano, Isabela
In many rural areas of the Philippines, integrating information and communication technology (ICT) into teaching and learning remains a challenge due to resource limitations. This study explored the level of preparedness and the challenges faced by public secondary schools in San Mariano, Isabela, in adopting ICT. Using a descriptive-survey design, data were gathered from teachers through a researcher-made questionnaire, and results were analyzed using weighted means. Findings revealed that schools are highly prepared overall (grand weighted mean = 4.36), showing exceptional strengths in monitoring and evaluation (4.82), community engagement (4.73), and sustainability planning (4.55). These results reflect the presence of strong systems, stakeholder involvement, and forward-looking plans. However, relatively lower scores in infrastructure development (3.93) and student access (3.79) point to unstable internet connectivity, limited devices, and socio-economic constraints. The most pressing challenges include the shortage of e-books, limited ICT-related training, and insufficient funding for technology upgrades. Addressing these gaps through targeted investments can further enhance ICT’s role in improving teaching and learning.
