Research on Size Effects of Interfacial Shear Stress Between Film and Substrate

C1 natural element method is introduced to the couple-stress theory, and size effects of interfacial shear stresses are analyzed. The computational solutions show that with reduce of the thickness of film, the dimensionless interfacial shear stresses reduce gradually, and size effects of the interfacial shear stresses turn to obvious. For a given bonding strength at the interfacial surface, the shear stresses under the couple-stress theory are less than those under the classical theory.

Abstract

C1 natural element method is introduced to the couple-stress theory, and size effects of interfacial shear stresses are analyzed. The computational solutions show that with reduce of the thickness of film, the dimensionless interfacial shear stresses reduce gradually, and size effects of the interfacial shear stresses turn to obvious. For a given bonding strength at the interfacial surface, the shear stresses under the couple-stress theory are less than those under the classical theory.
