A Computational Simulation Study on the ”Board Dragon” Problem

In “Board Dragon” the problem involves the complex motion and collision detection of a traditional Chinese cultural performance. The present study uses computational simulation to find the positions and velocities of each handle center in the coiling and uncoiling processes, optimize the turning space and make sure that there is no collision between the benches. This study applies the properties of the Archimedean spiral to set up a position and velocity calculation model, the Separating Axis Theorem for collision detection and use the Newton method to iteratively solve for the handle positions.

Abstract

In “Board Dragon” the problem involves the complex motion and collision detection of a traditional Chinese cultural performance. The present study uses computational simulation to find the positions and velocities of each handle center in the coiling and uncoiling processes, optimize the turning space and make sure that there is no collision between the benches. This study applies the properties of the Archimedean spiral to set up a position and velocity calculation model, the Separating Axis Theorem for collision detection and use the Newton method to iteratively solve for the handle positions.
