Performance Investigation of Induction Motor Mechanical Torque Limiting Method
This paper presents an experimental investigation into torque limiting techniques for induction motors operating in extreme environmental conditions. A mechanical torque limiter is examined as a robust alternative to electronic solutions, offering passive overload protection without reliance on sensitive components. Unlike variable frequency drives and soft starters, which may suffer from performance degradation under thermal stress, the mechanical limiter ensures consistent behavior across a wide range of temperatures. Its simple design enables automatic disengagement and re-engagement under overload conditions, providing reliable torque regulation without the need for continuous electronic control. Experimental validation is performed using a dedicated dynamometer setup, confirming the limiter's capability to maintain operational stability and safeguard the motor system from excessive torque loads.
