An Intelligent Controller Design for Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids

This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI) based control scheme for hybrid microgrids. These hybrid microgrids are established by combining AC and DC elements, which improves the system's flexibility and efficiency. Power quality and reliability are the major concerns for most researchers nowadays. These are the kinds of complex control problems for which AI provides exciting potential solutions that closely emulate human intelligence, such as decision-making, machine learning, and inference to improve stability and efficiency. This paper presents a comparative study between a conventional PI-based controller and the proposed AI-based controller. Simulations in MATLAB/Simulink have been performed for different test cases, and the results show the better performance of the proposed intelligent control scheme for hybrid microgrid systems.
