WOMEN AND TELEVISION: THE RECEPTION OF TURKISH SERIES AND THE ASPIRATIONS OF MOROCCAN WOMEN
This research examines the reception of Turkish television series by Moroccan women and explores their influence on individual aspirations, social representations, and cultural dynamics.Renowned for their production quality, captivating direction, and narratives blending love, family, and tradition, these series have garnered massive popularity in Morocco, particularly among women. This study revolves around the following question: How do Turkish series influence the identity aspirations and social representations of Moroccan women within the context of their sociocultural reality? To address this, a qualitative methodology was adopted, based on focus groups. The rich and diverse exchanges collected from participants were analyzed using NVivo software, enabling an in-depth discourse analysis. The findings reveal that these series play a significant role in projecting idealized life models, eliciting both admiration and questions about their applicability within the Moroccan context. They influence self-perceptions, social expectations, and occasionally interpersonal relationships.Furthermore, this research highlights the tensions between these aspirations, shaped by fiction, and the Moroccan sociocultural reality. These conclusions raise important questions about the influence of foreign media in a globalized world.
