Histopathological inflammation in the maternal and fetal placental compartments after PPROM and its association with subsequent neonatal sepsis
• Despite optimal management up to 22% of newborn with PPROM develop an early onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) • Histopathological examination of placentas revealed maternal inflammation in 51.4% of cases and fetal inflammation in 36.1% cases • No fetal inflammation occurred without maternal inflammation • When the inflammation affects the fetal compartment, the risk of EONS increases
