Biomedical Application of a Biocompatible Memristor Inspired by the Design of Monitoring Glioma Tumor Cells

Abstract Glioma is among the most common malignant tumors of the central nervous system (CNS), with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) representing the most aggressive and recurrent subtype. Conventional diagnostic approaches often involve highly invasive procedures, posing substantial risks of trauma and infection, particularly within the CNS. In this study, a biocompatible memristor with an Ag/PVP‐BGQDs/FTO architecture is fabricated by embedding boron‐doped graphene quantum dots (BGQDs) into a polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) matrix as the functional layer. The device exhibits robust resistive switching (RS) performance under controlled bias voltages and scan rates. Mechanistic analysis reveals that the RS behavior is governed by a combination of direct tunneling, Schottky emission, Ohmic conduction, and hopping conduction. Upon deposition of U87 glioblastoma or SH‐SY5Y neuronal cell suspensions onto the functional layer, the memristor displayed distinct electrical signatures, enabling effective differentiation between tumor and normal cells. Importantly, cell viability and apoptosis assays confirm the excellent biocompatibility of the device. Finally, an in vitro detection platform based on the memristor is constructed, demonstrating promising potential for non‐invasive, real‐time glioma diagnostics in biomedical applications.
