Preparation and Properties of In Situ Polymerized Polyphenylene Sulfide‐Based Microwave Absorbing Composites

ABSTRACT This study emphasizes the pivotal roles of carbon black (CB) and hollow glass beads (HGB) in enhancing the microwave absorption properties of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) through the preparation of PPS/CB and PPS/CB/HGB composites using in situ polymerization. Systematic investigations reveal that CB significantly boosts the dielectric loss factor of PPS‐based composites, thereby enhancing their microwave absorption capacity. However, it also compromises impedance matching. In contrast, the incorporation of HGB not only optimizes impedance matching but also introduces additional internal interfaces and scattering centers, which play a crucial role in further improving microwave absorption. The combined effects of CB and HGB are particularly evident in the PPS/CB 15%/ HGB composite, which achieves exceptional microwave absorption performance, with a minimum reflection loss of −21.58 dB at a thickness of 2.8 mm and an effective absorption bandwidth exceeding 4 GHz. These findings underscore the importance of CB and HGB in synergistically enhancing the overall microwave absorption properties of PPS‐based composites and provide valuable theoretical and experimental insights for the development of high‐performance PPS‐based microwave absorbers.
