Brujería y Neopentecostalismo: Representaciones Mágico Religiosas en el Caribe Colombiano
In the Colombian Caribbean, witchcraft is named “porquería” (dirt). Here is considered it an evil act and a form of violence. This text will focus on the representation of witchcraft as a symbolic violence. It is condemned through of a re-enchanted Christianity. A case study will be done in the Campo Robles´ family to achieve this aim. They lived in Cascajal, a village at North of Colombia. This paper is organized as follow: Initially, it immerses the reader in the syncretic world of Colombia's Caribbean coast. Then submit popular stories to demonstrate the worldview of a highly religious town, where a family is damned four making "pacts with the devil". At the same time, the Campo Robles´ family falls into misfortune. They tie it with witchcraft because their family histories demonstrate it. They condemn this practice in speech and with their conversion to neopentecostalism.
