Research on rapid focusing strategies for stereomicroscopes

In the engineering practice of automatic focusing in stereomicroscopes, traditional traversal focusing strategies may avoid local optima, yet they are relatively inefficient. On the other hand, the hill-climbing method often gets stuck in local optima, leading to a high failure rate and inadequate accuracy in focusing. To address this bottleneck, this article innovatively introduces a combined automatic focusing strategy. This strategy initially selects an appropriate coarse adjustment step size for rapid scanning to conserve time, and then automatically switches to fine scanning near the maximum value obtained during the coarse adjustment. This ensures precision during the focusing process and accelerates focusing convergence. Experimental data has fully validated the effectiveness of this optimization strategy. Compared to traditional traversal methods, it reduces focusing time by approximately 75%, significantly enhancing focusing efficiency and accuracy. This demonstrates significant application potential and promotional value.
