A ~88% Internal Slope Efficiency of a Ho:ZBLAN Waveguide Chip Laser at 2.1 μm
2.1 μm lasers have gained significant attention due to their operation in a retinal-safe wavelength range [1]. The low-loss atmospheric transmission in the 2-2.1 μm range facilitates techniques such as LIDAR and gas sensing making them suitable for applications in atmospheric monitoring and medical therapies [2], [3]. As a platform for developing high-efficiency, compact laser sources in the 2.1 μm spectral region, ZBLAN waveguide (WG) chip is a promising host material not only for its high transmission and low phonon energy, but also due to its wide capability in the WG design [4].
