Long-Distance Ranging and Hyperspectral LiDAR Using Free-Running Dual-Comb Lasers

Dual-comb systems offer high precision, long absolute ranging capabilities, and fast update rates, making them ideal for applications in industrial LiDAR, precision manufacturing, metrology, gravimetry and satellite formation flying [1]. Spectral broadening of the laser output further enables simultaneous acquisition of hyperspectral information encoded in dual-comb interferograms, providing additional benefits for material inspection, process monitoring, and environmental sensing. Here we explore the suitability of free-running 1 GHz single-cavity dual-comb lasers for both applications: long-distance ranging and broadband hyperspectral LiDAR (HSL).
