High-Efficiency Flexible Transmission of Broadband Mid-Infrared Ultrafast Pulses in Hollow-Core Photonic Crystal Fibre

Delivering mid-infrared (mid-IR) pulses with broad spectral coverage and sub-ps durations remains a significant challenge due to substantial material losses and excessive nonlinearity distortions within mid-IR glass fibres [1]. Hollow-core photonic crystal fibres (PCF) have superior transmission performance and orders-magnitude reduced nonlinearity [2]. Here, we report what we believe to be the first successful fiber-based delivery of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\sim 100$</tex> fs pulses within the water window <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\sim 2.8\ \mu \mathrm{m})$</tex>, achieving a peak power of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\sim 300\text{kW}$</tex> with high spectral, temporal, and spatial fidelity.

Abstract

Delivering mid-infrared (mid-IR) pulses with broad spectral coverage and sub-ps durations remains a significant challenge due to substantial material losses and excessive nonlinearity distortions within mid-IR glass fibres [1]. Hollow-core photonic crystal fibres (PCF) have superior transmission performance and orders-magnitude reduced nonlinearity [2]. Here, we report what we believe to be the first successful fiber-based delivery of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\sim 100$</tex> fs pulses within the water window <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\sim 2.8\ \mu \mathrm{m})$</tex>, achieving a peak power of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\sim 300\text{kW}$</tex> with high spectral, temporal, and spatial fidelity.
