Simultaneous Transmission of Baseband and RF Over Fiber
Radio-over-fiber (RoF) technology simplifies remote access points by transmitting radio frequency (RF)-modulated optical signals over optical fibers, which are subsequently delivered wirelessly to end users [1], [2]. This paper introduces a hybrid modulation scheme that supports the simultaneous transmission of baseband and RF signals over an RoF link. In contrast to existing approaches in the literature that rely on cascaded or parallel modulation architectures, multiple photodetectors, or multiplexing methods involving multiple wavelengths or polarizations, the proposed scheme uses a single optical fiber, a single wavelength, and a single photodetector, thereby achieving an efficient system design.
