Time-Domain Jacobi-Pulse-Sequence Transceiver
The reliable and robust transmission of large amounts of data is of great importance today and is driving research into effective methods in all orthogonal dimensions for data-intensive applications. Orthogonal polynomials e.g. Laguerre, Hermite or Jacobi [1] can drastically increase the capacity in space division multiplexing [2]. But, they require a multi- or few mode fiber and special photonics equipment. Here we show how Jacobi polynomials (JPs) can be used for orthogonal communications by time-domain multiplexing. In contrast to Hermite-Gaussian sequences [3], [4] an unlimited number of orthogonal Jacobi pulses can be multiplexed into a single symbol duration. Also, we demonstrate how Jacobi pulse-sequences (JCP) can be generated in a fully electrical recursive process and how these JCPs can be used in a simple optical transceiver.
