3-Watt, 3-Optical-Cycle Mid-IR Cr:ZnS Laser System for High Performance Dual Comb Spectroscopy

Dual comb spectroscopy (DCS) combines broad bandwidth with high sensitivity, precision, resolution, and speed. With this unprecedented performance envelope, DCS reveals new, previously unseen and unexplored spectroscopic details, enabling a host of new applications in science, industry and medicine. However, high performance DCS imposes very demanding requirements on the combs sources. The sources must deliver broadband light with high power spectral density and with ultra-low phase and intensity noise. These parameters are challenging to achieve simultaneously in the important mid- and longwave IR regions (3–30 μm) using the standard laser platforms.
