Flat Space Fibre Telescope
We propose a telescope without mirrors, having a diffraction limit of a wide aperture, while having a small volume and mass, suitable for spaceborne operations. The entrance aperture consists of a multitude of well-separated small lenses, feeding optical fibers, all of the same length. The fibers are then adjusted to illuminate a focal plane array via compact fibre optics. We derive the concept, optimize it, and build a lab demonstrator in the near infra-red (NIR).
