Odd- and Even-Order Brillouin Comb Generation for RF Communications
An optical frequency comb (OFC) is a light source with evenly spaced frequency lines, useful in communication and data centers at a consumer level. One promising candidate is the Brillouin comb generated by strongly pumping a nonlinear medium which can lead to multiple lines through nonlinear cascading [1]. However, a major downside is the narrow comb line spacing (~11 GHz), complicating frequency separation without filtering. To overcome this, previous studies have achieved wider Brillouin comb spacings (20–30 GHz) using complex multicavity setups or introducing micro air gap [2] at the cost of more cavity losses, intensity noise, and requirement of distinct configurations for different frequencies degrading the communication link performance.
