A Macroscopic QED Approach to Superconductivity
The description and realization of superconductors involving different types of photonic quasi-particles [1], [2], unlike conventional phonon-driven superconductivity, is a major open problem in condensed matter, with prospects for light-enhanced and cavity-modulated superconductivity [1], [3]. This challenge is especially acute when the properties of the quasi-particle are strongly shaped by the material geometry [2], [3], which in turn can alter the superconducting phase transition, as predicted for superconductors in cavities [3].
