Next-Generation Photonic Integrated Interrogators for Accurate Vital Signs Monitoring
Detection and analysis of vital signs, such as heart rate and respiratory rate, have become increasingly critical in the era of digital health monitoring systems. The demand for continuous, real-time monitoring has led to the development of sensors that are small, portable, energy- and cost-efficient. Achieving these objectives necessitates the miniaturization of all components, ensuring they meet performance requirements. Optical sensors have emerged as a promising solution to this challenge, offering the advantages of sensitivity and immunity to electro-magnetic interferences [1]. Combined with integrated photonic interrogators, they offer the advantages of reduced size and weight, easier integration with optical and electronic systems, lower power consumption, and decreased manufacturing and operational costs.
