Self-Starting Mamyshev Oscillator at 915 nm Using an Intra-Cavity SESAM
Mamyshev fiber laser oscillators have been the subject of much research over the past decade, owing their ability to produce ultrashort pulses (down to ~50 fs) with high energy and excellent stability. This mode-locking technique allows a very large non-linear phase accumulation within an all-PM fiber laser cavity, improving both pulse compressibility and system robustness. While the continuous wave lasing is suppressed by offsetting intra-cavity spectral filters, self-starting of the pulses generation (i.e. without external seed) is still an issue. Different methods have already been developed to address this problem such as pump modulation and progressive mechanical shifting of the filter central wavelength [1]. Mamyshev oscillator at 920 nm has recently been demonstrated using Nddoped fibers [2]. This system is highly advanced in terms of pulse quality and compactness but still requires a mechanical action on fiber Bragg gratings to start.
