A Novel Simple Technique to Measure the Nonlinear Coefficient of Optical Fibres Using a Coherent Receiver

There exist many approaches to measure the Kerr nonlinear coefficient of optical fibres. Interferometric methods are known to be very sensitive to environmental perturbations while noninterferometric methods can be costly, complex to implement or sensitive to group-velocity dispersion or nonlinear scatterings (Raman and Brillouin) [1]. We propose a new simple method to measure the nonlinear coefficient <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$\gamma$</tex> of optical fibres. This method requires simple equipments, low optical power and is independent to the fibre dispersion.
