High-Performance Optical Filters for Advanced Bio-Imaging Systems: Manufacturing Challenges and Innovative Solutions
The field of bio-imaging and optical microscopy has seen significant growth over the past decades, driven by advancements in optical components, laser systems, and computing power. Advanced biophotonics systems such as fluorescence microscopes, coherent or stimulated Raman scattering microscopes or polarization microscopes often require specialized optical filters, such as narrow notch filters to remove unwanted laser signals, polarizing filters to maximize transmission in the selected polarization while achieving high extinction, or phase filters to ensure precise optical delay control.
