Observation of Polarization Symmetry-Broken Platicons in a Passive Kerr Resonator with Normal Dispersion
The generation of bright cavity solitons in passive Kerr resonators with normal dispersion is challenging due to the imbalance between the dispersion and nonlinearity. To this end, Lebanov and co-workers have proposed the generation of platicons, which consist a long platform and switching waves that connects bottom and top homogeneous steady state (HSS) [1]. These specific localized structures are versatile optical frequency combs source (no longer rely on the anomalous dispersion condition) owing to higher optical conversion efficiency than the conventional cavity solitons. Recent investigations have revealed that optical platicons could be mediated by the coupled cavities [2], the assist of self-injection locking [3] and modulated pulse pumping condition [4].
