Subcycle Band-Structure Videography of Graphene

Lightwave electronics [1] exploits the carrier wave of light pulses to drive electrons faster than a single optical cycle. Its technological impact [2] relies on our control of the interaction of ultrashort light transients with novel quantum materials. In this regard, accessing ultrafast electron dynamics in momentum space while simultaneously relating them to the pump waveform is crucial for understanding light-matter interaction on its ultimate time scale. Pioneering angle-resolved photoemission experiments unveiled the subcycle formation of intraband currents [3] and Floquet-Bloch bands [4], but only along specific directions near the Brillouin zone center. However, in many quantum materials relevant physics occurs at the edges of the Brillouin zone.
